VEHICLE RECALL AFFECTING DRIVING TESTS – Vauxhall Corsa D New Model
Vauxhall are recalling a number of the new Vauxhall Corsa D model vehicles for safety reasons. This will affect driving tests from the morning of Monday 5th February.
The recall is a precaution and involves checking the front lower control arm and replacing it if necessary. It has been established by Vauxhall that for the vehicles affected that the front control arm may not be manufactured to specification which could impair driving stability. In the worst case the driver may lose steering control of the vehicle.
We have carried out a risk assessment and have concluded that even though the risk of failure occurring is extremely low the consequences of failure on test could be very serious. We have therefore decided that examiners should not conduct tests in the new Corsa D model affected by the recall until the vehicle has been checked under the warranty arrangements.
The recall affects all the new Corsa D models (new shape Corsa) first sold from October 2006 (56 reg) with the following VIN information:
Model: Corsa D
Plant: Zaragoza
From: 7 4 000001 To 7 4 186810
&
Model: Corsa D
Plant: Eisenach
From: 7 6 000001 To 7 6 068172
The VIN plates are at the bottom of the nearside front window and the VIN number will be found at the right hand end of the sequence of letters.
Only Corsa D models with the above VIN numbers are affected by this recall
When the vehicle has been inspected the dealer will stamp the recall letter to confirm that the vehicle has been through the recall procedure. A vehicle certification label will also be affixed to the vehicle bonnet closure panel. If a vehicle is taken to a dealer before a recall letter is issued the dealer will provide written confirmation headed ‘DSA Driver Confirmation Letter – Front Lower Control Arm’ that the vehicle has been inspected under the recall arrangements and that the vehicle is within specification. This will be signed by the service manager and be stamped by the dealer.
If a vehicle is presented for test that is covered by the recall and the vehicle has not already been checked the ADI/Candidate should be advised to contact their local Vauxhall dealer for the vehicle to be inspected.
